English

Street names which result from political decisions mostly represent conventions that have little relation to the street itself. On the contrary, celebrations beginning with the word 'Here...' refer to the street as a concrete reality. This offers a context to the message and modifies its interpretations. Institutional branding has the monopoly over the inscription of collective memory and Republican themes in the public space. Popular expression is confined to limited and regulated spaces, or takes refuge in interstices.
