European Courts have given rise to jurisprudence with significant consequences and French courts apply their rulings. However, this alignment can be slow and reluctant. Today, there is still a disagreement between French courts and the ECJ on the legal basis of the primacy of EU law over French law. French courts are bound by the rulings of the European Court of Justice through the mechanism of prejudicial questions whose consequences have been, and continue to be, significant.
