Sociologie de la fête: un itinéraire de sociologie économique
In collaboration with Regards croisés sur l'économieThe sociology of the party encounters various obstacles, not least the lack of studies on the subject, perhaps due to its perception as illegitimate, despite the Durkheimian school's studies on the subject. An economic sociology of the party is complex due to the opposing perception of the economy and the party.
Despite this, an economic perspective offers relevant insight into this powerful social moment by exploring its organization, economic conditions, marketing, financing, and participation. Finally, an investigation into the economics of celebration must also address positive emotions, often neglected in the sociology of emotions, by understanding the social mechanisms of joy production during these social moments, illustrated by examples such as street parties, carnivals in France and abroad, and the Lille braderie.
Philippe Steiner is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Sorbonne Université, Honorary Member of the Institut Universitaire de France and a member of Gemass (Groupe d'Etude des Méthodes de l'Analyse Sociologique de la Sorbonne). His publications focus on economic sociology and the history of the social sciences.
The meeting is moderated by Jean-Marie Durand, freelance journalist.
