Care Facilities

Looking back at the movement that led to the multiplication of psychiatric care facilities and their emancipation from the framework of the asylum setting designed in the 19^th century, the paper first reconstructs the various stages of the dissemination of psychiatric care and then shows how this movement led to a profound rethinking of what constitutes a care facility, in particular from an architectural point of view. Eventually, it indicates that this change led to a reorganisation of the administration of coercion, which largely moved away from the hospital setting.
