A rich literature has questioned the contribution of parliamentarism and semi-presidentialism to the democratic quality of political systems. Along those lines, the article reviews the various democratic perils associated with the semi-presidential regime. It highlights the possible regressions linked to the potential competition between the two heads of the executive and to the electoral legitimacy the President can rely on.
