The festive street refers as much to the notion of atmosphere, of ways of being as to that of a manifestation linked to a special date. It is a sort of crystallization of the many expectations of different actors and groups who appropriate certain streets and certain public places for play activities or demonstrations. Contradictory motivations (commercial, political, associative) may cooperate in the street and lead to the symbolic reconstruction of a space, such as the Canal Saint-Martin, which can eventually function as an area of pure 'spectacle'.
