Although the debate about the personal influence of Bonaparte on the adoption of this or that provision of the Civil Code has become somewhat obsolete, the historical reflection still continues to be made on the links between the codification and the Napoleonic regime. The Civil Code is, for a large part, inspired by the projects and debates of the Revolution. Bonaparte accompanied rather than provoked the turn operated since Thermidor. The context of the codification is not indifferent to the Napoleonic ideology and propaganda, but the Code cannot be narrowed down to its title and its link to Napoleon.
