The adoption of the Digital Services Act by the European institutions marks the assimilation of a logic of compliance to regulate freedom of expression on the internet. Given the structural difficulty of controlling online contents, the choice to entrust this mission to the platforms themselves prevailed although it raises numerous questions regarding their capacity, willingness, and legitimacy to do so. It also stimulates a reflection about the conditions for rebalancing content control, which is essential to a pacified regulation of freedom of expression.
