executive performance, should it be within universities or
organizations. Notwithstanding the fact that academic and
professional worlds do not consider the potential of higher
intelligence to the extent of setting up measurement processes,
researchers also neither agree on the meaning of intelligence nor
on the best ways to assess it. Consequently, if there is a great
number of tests aiming at measuring giftedness, the will to update
their structure and relevance is not a priority. In order to
support the potential of intelligence, we here propose a new IQ
testing concept, which we have built from the pioneers’
observations and enriched with aggregated items that are as free as
possible from educational and cultural influences. In this regard,
we present historical conceptual oppositions, we diagnose the
currently existing tests, and we set up the conceptual framework
into which we anchor our test’s components for us to be able to
identify higher intelligence while preserving it from cultural or
educational distortions.

psychopathology of learning which is denied today for the benefit
of the prevailing neurodevelopmental hypothesis. Psychopathology
and development can be linked and reexamined together in the light
of the contemporary societal frames. The numeric revolution and the
concept of artificial intelligence impact on our representations of
the thinking child by assimilating the brain to intelligence and
thinking. These equivalences brain-intelligence-thinking induce an
epistemological regression confining learning to a
performance : in this perspective we are speaking today about
child “increased”. From the thinking child to the child who is
thought about we relate the development of thinking in the child
underlining the necessary conditions for this process. A clinical
vignette evokes the difficulties of a little girl with dyspraxia
disorders and shows how the current conceptions determine the
diagnostic and the therapeutic devices. We refer also to the

learning processes, a major question is raised in this article: are
recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), and particularly
the rise of neural networks, liable to put in doubt the supremacy
of the human brain? What differences in nature, what conflicts or
complementarities are there between these two forms of
intelligence? After reminding us of the birth of the neural networks
field, the advances made with such networks and their recent
successes, Jean-Claude Heudin lays out their limitations. He goes
on to explain the specificity of neural networks and AI, which, he
writes, “are not complex systems, but ordered systems” that may
have superior capacities to humans with respect to certain tasks.
By contrast, human intelligence is “many-faceted, emotional and
empathic”; for that reason, it has superior abilities to AI when it
comes to performing many other tasks and functioning in a complex
environment. Lastly, taking pains to demonstrate the different
forms of intelligence, Heudin concludes that AI and human
intelligence are complementary.

Evolution in the assessment of intellectual functions, between
tradition and innovationThe French publication of the WISC-V is an
opportunity to have a critical look at the foundations and utility
of the measurements of intelligence provided by the Wechsler
scales. This article examines the conceptual foundation of these
scales, from the concept of global intelligence proposed by Binet
to the CHC model underlying the contents and organization of the
WISC-V. The strengths and weaknesses of this model are presented,
along with its implications for the assessment of intellectual
functions. The role of the index score scatter analysis in the
interpretation of the performances on the WISC-V is discussed.
Finally, the implications of research using neuroimaging to reveal
brain networks involved in solving intellectual tasks are examined.
The consistency of the current results with some of Binet and
Wechsler’s intuitions is highlighted.
